Chinese Ministry of National Defense: "Pursuing Taiwan Independence Is a Path to Death"

After Taiwan's Additional US Arms Purchase, China Increases Pressure
Stable US-China Relations Align with Mutual Interests

[Asia Economy Beijing=Special Correspondent Jo Young-shin] The Chinese Ministry of National Defense warned that "seeking Taiwan independence by force is a path to death."

Wu Qian, spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of National Defense, said at a monthly briefing on the 29th, addressing Taiwan independence forces, "Do not be like Danglang Juecheol (螳螂拒轍: a mantis trying to stop a chariot). Otherwise, you will only bring about your own destruction."

Wu's remarks came amid the United States' successive sales of advanced weapons to Taiwan and China's strong opposition to these actions.

The United States recently approved a weapons export worth $1.8 billion (approximately 2.04 trillion KRW) to Taiwan, and just five days later announced an additional weapons sale worth $2.37 billion (approximately 2.6781 trillion KRW).

While issuing a warning to Taiwan, Wu spoke in a restrained tone regarding the United States, emphasizing the need for communication.

He stated, "Maintaining a stable relationship between the militaries of China and the United States aligns with mutual interests and requires joint efforts," adding, "We hope the United States will face China directly, reduce hostility, refrain from provocations, increase communication, and manage risks."

Regarding the strengthening of military cooperation between the United States and India to 'contain China,' Wu said, "The so-called American system is a product of the Cold War, reflecting past Cold War thinking and a zero-sum game," and declared, "China firmly opposes this."
