WP: Most Trump Supporters Among Elites Are Far-Right Populists
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] With the U.S. presidential election just around the corner, some foreign leaders classified as far-right populists are openly supporting President Donald Trump.
According to the Washington Post (WP) on the 28th (local time), Hungarian Prime Minister Orban Viktor, who supported President Trump during the 2016 election, declared his support for Trump again last month. Earlier this month, Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro also publicly expressed his support. WP analyzed that foreign leaders classified as far-right populists in the international community are declaring their support.
President Bolsonaro mentioned that he might attend President Trump's inauguration if everything goes well while signing a new trade agreement with the U.S. He is regarded as the "Trump of Brazil."
Serbian President Aleksandar Vu?i? also expressed last month his hope that the U.S. would overcome its crisis and wished President Trump the best of luck. President Vu?i? comes from a nationalist party and maintains relations with Russia while pursuing a pro-Western liberal line.
Furthermore, Slovenian Prime Minister Janez Jan?a expressed his support for President Trump via Twitter this month, stating that if Democratic candidate Joe Biden wins the U.S. presidential election, he would be the weakest president in history.
Meanwhile, Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte made supportive remarks about President Trump even earlier, in February.
