Request to Lead the Role in Agricultural Development
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Kim Young-rok, Governor of Jeonnam Province, held a communication meeting with Jeonnam agricultural Meisters by product and urged them to “play a leading role in the development of Jeonnam agriculture.”
According to Jeonnam Province on the 29th, the meeting held at the Seo Jae-pil Room of the Jeonnam Provincial Office was attended by Choi Gu-hong, chairman of the Jeonnam Agricultural Meisters, and 20 people including Jin Il-jang, the first agricultural Meister who farms persimmons in Muan.
Various discussions were held for the development of Jeonnam agriculture in preparation for the post-COVID-19 era.
The main topics were active support for agricultural Meisters, ways to utilize their expertise, and measures for follow-up management such as regular professional education to strengthen their capabilities.
The agricultural Meister system, first introduced nationwide in 2009, aims to foster professional agricultural managers who possess advanced skills and management abilities by product and can pass them on.
Agricultural Meisters are designated by the Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs after passing written exams, competency evaluations, and field assessments, targeting farmers who have completed the two-year Agricultural Meister College supported by the government and Jeonnam Province.
Currently, 27 agricultural Meisters have been produced in Jeonnam Province since 10 were first certified in 2010. They play a leading role in stabilizing the agricultural industry by providing product-specific startup consulting and passing on core technologies and management know-how in local communities.
Additionally, based on their outstanding technical skills and management capabilities, they are actively working as professional instructors at the Agricultural Technology Institute, Agricultural Technology Centers, and various agricultural education institutions.
Kim Young-rok, Governor of Jeonnam Province, said, “This year, farmers faced more difficulties than ever due to numerous natural disasters such as typhoons, and especially the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic has brought many changes to our lives. In preparation for the post-COVID-19 era, I ask agricultural Meisters, who combine theoretical knowledge and diverse field know-how, to take pride and lead the development of Jeonnam agriculture.”
