Jeju Island, the Nation's Only Developer of 'Job Policy' Support Statistics

Administrative Data-Based 'Business Birth-Death Registration Statistics' and 'Jeju Job Registration Statistics'

Jeju Island, the Nation's Only Developer of 'Job Policy' Support Statistics

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Chang-won] Jeju Special Self-Governing Province announced on the 29th the results of the Jeju Business Birth-Death Registration Statistics and Jeju Job Registration Statistics to support Jeju-type job policy.

In particular, the compilation of business birth-death and job statistics specialized for the region was developed for the first time nationwide, based on the recognition that detailed statistics are needed to support job policies in the Jeju area.

The significance of this statistics lies in providing basic data for job policies by understanding the life cycle of local business births and deaths, as well as the scale and changes of jobs.

Jeju Province signed a business agreement with the Honam Regional Statistics Office in April last year and promoted the compilation of two-year statistics (based on 2018-2019) until this year.

The Jeju Business Birth-Death Registration Statistics utilize a total of four types of data, including the Corporate Statistics Register, to confirm the status of business births and deaths by industry, employee size, organizational form, representative's gender and age, and region.

In the case of Jeju Job Registration Statistics, a total of seven types of administrative data, including employee registers linked to social insurance and Jeju resident registration data, are used to identify sustained, replaced, new, and extinct jobs by company organizational form, employee size, industry, and worker gender, age, length of service, and employment status.

Jeju Province expects that the Jeju Job Policy Base Statistics will provide basic data necessary for regional job policies, thereby having high utility for policy formulation and evaluation.

Choi Myung-dong, Director of the Job Economy and Trade Bureau of Jeju Province, said, "This job policy base statistics allows us to understand the job situation in our region, and through performance analysis of ongoing job projects, we will strive to actively discover projects suitable for Jeju in the future."

Lee Ho-seok, Director of the Honam Regional Statistics Office, said, "I emphasize that the Jeju Job Policy Base Statistics is the only regional job-related data nationwide based on administrative data rather than field surveys, and I hope that both institutions will continue to cooperate to develop new statistics specialized for the region."
