After the arrest consent bill was approved that day, Representative Jeong issued a statement saying, "I sincerely thank my fellow lawmakers who stood by me until the end."

She said, "Today, when the knife (刀) overpowered the sword (劍), only now have I been able to take out and read three letters," adding, "These are letters from Mok-eun Yi Saek, the greatest intellectual of the late 14th century and a key figure in King Gongmin of Goryeo's reform politics."

She continued, "Yi Saek was pushed out of the court by Yi Seong-gye and exiled to Hamchang, Gyeongsang Province. From his place of exile, he wrote three letters to his top disciple Jeong Mong-ju, his former friend turned rival Yi Seong-gye, and his disciple Jeong Do-jeon," and said, "Even when making requests, he must have wanted to maintain his dignity until the end. He wanted to proudly uphold the attitude of a scholar who lives detached from worldly affairs."

Representative Jeong emphasized toward the prosecution, saying, "I am neither envious nor afraid of Yi Saek, Yi Seong-gye, Jeong Do-jeon, or Jeong Mong-ju," and added, "I only find Lee Bang-won, who hides behind them, disgraceful."

Earlier, National Assembly Speaker Park Byeong-seok convened a plenary session that afternoon and declared the approval of the arrest consent bill for Representative Jeong with 167 votes in favor, 12 against, 3 abstentions, and 4 invalid votes out of a total of 186 votes cast.
