The ‘Korea 4-H Awards,’ now in its 22nd year, is an event that selects outstanding school 4-H clubs, 4-H members, and 4-H leaders to encourage the systematic discovery and nurturing of talents with creative thinking and proper character.
Jeollanam-do 4-H Federation Senior Vice President Jeon Gongsu (58th and 59th president of Goheung-gun 4-H Federation, Podu-myeon) received the main prize (Rural Development Administration Commissioner Award) of the ‘Korea 4-H Awards’ in recognition of his contributions to the development of the youth 4-H club and fostering school 4-H clubs.
The ‘8th National 4-H Instructor Field Research Competition’ is an event aimed at fostering talents equipped with humanistic imagination and scientific creativity in response to the 4th Industrial Revolution era, and promoting qualitative growth in field education through joint research by 4-H instructors and student 4-H members.
4-H instructor Lee Seungha received the grand prize (Minister of Education Award) for conducting field research on ‘Utilizing Planterior with 3D Printers’ together with 4-H members of Pungnam Elementary School.
In addition to the field research competition, Instructor Lee Seungha provided opportunities for student members to gain diverse experiences through activities such as the ‘4-H Horticultural Healing Bean Planting Project’ and ‘Topiary, Hanging Garden, and Terrarium Making Project.’ This contributed to students Jo Eunsol and Lee Yesung (6th grade) of the same school winning the encouragement award (Korea 4-H Headquarters President Award) in the ‘Maker Project Competition’ category at the ‘14th National Student 4-H Project Competition.’
Goheung-gun fosters 281 members across one farming 4-H club, five school 4-H clubs, and one 4-H headquarters, supporting youth and young farmers through farming 4-H and school 4-H project activities.
A county official stated, “The 4-H club started as an agricultural organization to revitalize agriculture and rural areas, but now it is transforming into a youth activity support organization to nurture convergent talents suited for the new era. In 2021, we will focus all our capabilities on making Goheung a better place for young people to live.”
