[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Nahum] The Democratic Party of Korea is reportedly set to hold a party-wide vote on whether to nominate candidates for the Seoul and Busan mayoral by-elections scheduled for April next year.

According to the Democratic Party on the 29th, an emergency closed-door Supreme Council meeting was convened in the morning to discuss the by-election policy, and this direction was decided.

Democratic Party leader Lee Nak-yeon is expected to announce his position on this matter at a parliamentary meeting at 1 p.m. that day.

Currently, there is a proposal to ask through a vote whether to proceed with nominations or amend the party constitution and regulations.

The party-wide vote is expected to take place as early as this weekend.
