President Moon and Ruling Party Approval Ratings Rise Together... "Impact of Choo-Yoon Conflict" [Realmeter]


[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Nahum] A poll has shown that President Moon Jae-in and the ruling party's approval ratings have both risen.


According to Realmeter, which conducted the survey commissioned by tbs from the 26th to the 28th, the positive evaluation of President Moon's administration increased by 2.0 percentage points from the previous week's weekly aggregate to 47.6%, announced on the 29th. Negative evaluations decreased by 1.3 percentage points to 48.3%. The gap between positive and negative evaluations is 0.7 percentage points, which is within the margin of error.


Positive evaluations rose in Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam (up 5.9 percentage points), among men (up 4.7 percentage points), those aged 70 and above (up 9.6 percentage points), supporters of the Open Democratic Party (up 9.3 percentage points), and supporters of the Justice Party (up 9.2 percentage points). Conversely, negative evaluations increased in Daegu and Gyeongbuk (up 7.2 percentage points), Seoul (up 3.2 percentage points), and those in their 30s (up 7.0 percentage points).

The Democratic Party of Korea's approval rating also rose. The Democratic Party recorded 36.7%, up 1.6 percentage points from the previous week, further widening the gap with the People Power Party, which recorded 27.6%. The People Power Party increased by 0.3 percentage points from the previous week.


Other parties recorded the following: Open Democratic Party 6.6%, People’s Party 6.3%, Justice Party 5.0%, Basic Income Party 0.8%, and Transition Korea 0.7%.


Realmeter explained that the conflict between Justice Minister Choo Mi-ae and Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-youl, which surfaced during the National Assembly audit, appears to have been reflected in the approval ratings of the president and the ruling party.


This survey contacted 34,928 voters aged 18 and over nationwide, with a final response of 1,516 people, recording a response rate of 4.3%. The sampling error is ±2.5 percentage points at a 95% confidence level. For more details, refer to the Central Election Poll Deliberation Commission website.
