[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Ji-hee] Kia Motors' domestic business headquarters labor and management have embarked on a vehicle donation initiative for underprivileged groups.
On the 28th, Kwon Hyuk-ho, Vice President of Kia Motors Domestic Business Headquarters, and Kim Jin-sung, Chairman of the Labor Union Sales Branch, held a vehicle donation ceremony at 'Nuyahouse,' a manufacturer of products made by people with severe disabilities in Eunpyeong-gu, Seoul, donating 9 Ray vehicles to social welfare organizations nationwide. Welfare organization representatives, including Ko In-seok, CEO of Nuyahouse, and Jo Jun-ho, CEO of the social welfare corporation Elsels Have, also attended the event.
Now in its 8th year, the Love Sharing Vehicle Donation project is a representative social contribution activity of Kia Motors' domestic business headquarters labor and management. Every year, social contribution funds are raised to support social welfare organizations in need with vehicles ahead of the year-end. Since 2013, Kia Motors labor and management have donated a total of 64 vehicles, including Morning, Ray, and Carnival models.
This year, one multipurpose box-type compact car Ray was donated to nine locations, including 'Nuyahouse,' where people with severe disabilities produce cosmetics and soap; the Goseong-gun Daycare Center for the Visually Impaired in Gyeongnam; the Elderly Welfare Center in Ganghwa-gun, Incheon; and the Seomna's House Regional Children's Center in Daejeon. The donated Rays will be freely used not only for the welfare organizations' staff work but also by members such as the elderly, children, and people with disabilities wherever needed.
Chairman Kim said, "This year, especially amid the nationwide difficulties caused by the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), we are glad that the company and the labor union could offer a small help," adding, "Going forward, labor and management will continue to strive to carry on this project steadily based on trust and harmony to fulfill our social responsibilities."
