CJ Olive Young Included in Top 25% of Domestic Companies in UN Sustainable Development Goals Management Index

[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] CJ Olive Young's various sustainability management efforts, such as the ‘Olive Young Clean Beauty’ and the ‘UNESCO Girls' Education’ campaign, have shone brightly.

CJ Olive Young announced on the 29th that it was selected as a top-tier group in the ‘2020 UN Sustainable Development Goals Business Index (SDGBI)’ announced by the UN SDGs Association, a special consultative status organization of the UN Economic and Social Council, on the 26th.

The UN SDGBI is a management analysis index based on the UN Sustainable Development Goals, announced since 2016. It analyzes 2,000 companies worldwide and 1,000 domestic companies based on 12 items and 48 indicators across four areas: society, environment, economy, and institutions, focusing on companies whose management activities best align with the 17 SDGs.

CJ Olive Young was selected as a top-tier group by being included in the top 25% among 173 domestic companies selected as evaluation targets out of 3,000 domestic and international companies. The company was recognized for the achievements of various eco-friendly activities such as the ‘Olive Young Clean Beauty’ campaign, which considers cosmetic ingredients, environment, and ethical consumption, the introduction of eco-friendly packaging for the ‘One Day Dream’ delivery service, and the ‘Smart Receipt’ service. Its continuous efforts toward women’s and girls’ education, including the ‘UNESCO Girls' Education’ campaign launched in 2014 to provide educational opportunities to girls in developing countries, also contributed to the evaluation.

Since June, CJ Olive Young has been introducing cosmetic brands and products that strive for coexistence with the earth along with healthy ingredients through its own Olive Young Clean Beauty standards. Brands that exclude suspected harmful ingredients and practice eco-friendliness or animal protection are awarded a selection mark (emblem).

Along with this, CJ Olive Young is practicing environmental protection by reducing plastic through replacing the packaging of ‘One Day Dream,’ the industry's first immediate cosmetic delivery service, from the existing PVC vinyl material to recyclable kraft paper. In 2015, the company introduced the ‘Smart Receipt’ instead of paper receipts, and by March of this year, the cumulative number of issued receipts exceeded 100 million, achieving a reduction effect of over 100 million paper receipts.

Meanwhile, companies selected as top-tier groups, including CJ Olive Young, will be introduced as major sustainability management cases in the international community through various UN SDGs platforms in the future. They will also be recommended as top partner companies for the international eco-certification ‘GRP,’ announced every May.

A CJ Olive Young official said, “It is a meaningful achievement to have presented various activities in line with the value consumption trend, from the introduction of eco-friendly packaging to the Clean Beauty campaign,” adding, “We will continue our eco-friendly efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals in line with our brand value of healthy beauty.”
