Prioritizing Customer and Employee Safety with Store-wide Disinfection Before and After SSG Day
Up to 50% Off All Hanwoo Products, King Crab 100g for 4,990 KRW, 75-inch TV for 1,090,000 KRW, and More
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Hye-sun] Emart announced on the 29th that it will hold its biggest annual event, 'SSG Day,' starting from the 31st. This year, thorough quarantine measures will be implemented to prioritize the prevention of COVID-19.
Emart has prepared a scale of 200 billion KRW, doubling the volume from the previous year. The event will kick off with Korean beef. Emart will hold the 'Hanwoo Day (November 1)' event concurrently, offering up to 50% discounts on all Korean beef products for four days starting October 29, two days before the main 'SSG Day' event. The prepared quantity totals 180 tons, which is nine times the usual weekly sales volume of 20 tons. According to the Livestock Products Quality Evaluation Service, the average price of Korean beef carcass from October 15 to 28 this year was 20,716 KRW per kilogram, maintaining a high price about 12.2% higher than the same period last year. This is because increased domestic consumption in the first half of the year led Hanwoo farmers to advance the slaughtering of cattle planned for the second half to May and June, resulting in a shortage of supply. Despite the high price of Korean beef, Emart planned this event to allow customers to enjoy Korean beef affordably during 'SSG Day.' For sirloin, a 50% discount is applied, with 1+ grade priced at 6,500 KRW per 100g and 1st grade at 5,650 KRW per 100g. For soup cuts and bulgogi, a 40% discount is offered, with 1+ grade at 3,720 KRW per 100g and 1st grade at 3,300 KRW per 100g.
On the 31st, for one day only, Russian Red King Crab will be sold at a 40% discount for 4,990 KRW per 100g. The quantity prepared is 15 tons, four times the average monthly sales volume last year, and purchases are limited to one crab per person. Although prices have increased by about 25% compared to last year due to increased exports to China following the stabilization of COVID-19 conditions there, Emart has prepared this special price through advance planning and reducing its own margins.
Emart-exclusive product DreamView SMART UHD TV 75-inch will be sold at 1.09 million KRW, discounted by 200,000 KRW when purchased with the event card during the two days of 'SSG Day,' limited to 1,500 units across all stores. This price is about 30-40% cheaper compared to similar products at the discounted price. The DreamView 75-inch TV is a smart TV with internet wired and wireless connectivity, supporting YouTube and Netflix. In addition, there are abundant benefits such as shocking prices by category, 1+1 50% discounts on all items, and daily special prices. Previously, when 'SSG Day' was held for one day on November 2 last year, sales increased by 71.0% compared to the same period the previous year.
The most important theme of this year’s 'SSG Day' prepared by Emart is safety. While it was held for one day last year, this year it will be extended to two days to disperse customers, and a non-face-to-face telephone order delivery service will be provided exclusively during the 'SSG Day' period.
The telephone order delivery service allows customers to call the representative number of the nearest Emart store during the 'SSG Day' period and order products worth 50,000 KRW or more, which will then be delivered collectively on November 2, the day after 'SSG Day.' In addition, disinfection work will be carried out in all stores before and after 'SSG Day,' and floor stickers and notices will be placed at places where customers queue, such as checkout counters, to ensure customers maintain a certain distance from each other.
