[Asia Economy Reporter Yoonju Hwang] Dow announced on the 29th that it will supply 'INNATE™ TF Polyethylene Resin for Tenter Frame Biaxial Orientation,' a film packaging material with enhanced recyclability, to Amorepacific's Sulwhasoo, Illiyoon, and Primera cosmetic packaging materials.
The polyethylene film made with Dow's high-performance packaging resin brand 'INNATE™' is composed of a single polyethylene material rather than the commonly used mixed materials in packaging, yet it boasts excellent physical properties and outstanding durability. Packaging made from a single material does not require separating multiple layers, making recycling easier and allowing for complete recycling in existing recycling facilities. Additionally, it is lighter and stronger compared to other products, enabling the film thickness to be reduced. Through this, brand owners like Amorepacific can produce fully recyclable packaging and reduce the amount of plastic used in packaging materials.
Moreover, it has excellent tear resistance, so printed parts do not crack or break even at low temperatures. It also has a special molecular structure that allows recycling, preventing plastic from leaking into the environment, and is recognized as a 'design for recycling' solution. Dow's INNATE resin will be used in stand-up pouch products containing liquid cosmetics from Sulwhasoo, Illiyoon, and Primera.
Bambang Candra, Vice President and Head of Packaging and Specialty Plastics Business for Dow Asia Pacific, said, "Dow will continue to introduce innovative packaging solutions that meet both product performance and sustainability desired by customers, while achieving our sustainability goal of making all our packaging materials reusable or recyclable by 2035."
Yoo Minho, Head of Packaging Research Team at Amorepacific, said, "As consumers' awareness of eco-friendliness increases recently, demand for innovative and sustainable packaging materials is also rising. Amorepacific will strive to achieve the goal of reducing plastic usage by 700 tons by 2022 through collaboration with various companies including Dow."
Meanwhile, Dow is enhancing the recycling value of packaging materials such as rice packaging bags, pet food bags, and liquid detergent pouches through collaboration with various global companies pursuing sustainability. In addition, Dow is making efforts in various ways, including raising awareness of the seriousness of waste issues and working closely with companies and countries to solve them.
