Expansion of Employment Retention Subsidies for Companies Implementing Paid Leave Due to Business Deterioration... Additional Yeongdeungpo Love Gift Certificates and Extended Leave Days for Family Care Leave Usage
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Chaehyun Il) is continuously expanding measures to minimize the damage suffered by local small business owners and to stabilize the lives of residents due to the resurgence of COVID-19 and the extension of social distancing measures.
Since the first half of this year, the district has been implementing various projects to ensure employment stability for companies and workers affected by COVID-19, and plans to focus even more on preparing additional measures and expanding support to stabilize the livelihoods of small business owners and workers until the COVID-19 situation reaches a calm phase.
The district is expanding the “Employment Retention Support System” to assist local companies that have been forced to adjust employment due to business deterioration caused by COVID-19.
The Employment Retention Support Fund system, which has been operated since the first half of the year as a common project among the 25 autonomous districts of Seoul, was applied only to workers on unpaid leave, but from October, Yeongdeungpo-gu secured its own budget and expanded the target to include companies with paid leave as well.
The “Employment Retention Support Fund for Unpaid Leave Workers” provides support of 500,000 KRW per month, up to 1 million KRW for two months, to workers belonging to companies with fewer than 50 employees in the district who have taken unpaid leave for five or more days per month since July 1 of this year.
The “Employment Retention Support Fund for Paid Leave Companies” targets local businesses eligible for the Ministry of Employment and Labor’s paid leave employment retention support fund, providing additional support for the employer’s share (ranging from 10% to 33%, depending on the Ministry’s support rate) of the paid leave allowance not covered by the Ministry’s support.
Additionally, the “Family Care Cost Support Project,” which has been in effect since April, will be extended and expanded. It provides an additional 50,000 KRW per day in Yeongdeungpo Love Gift Certificates to workers who took unpaid child care leave due to COVID-19, increasing the originally supported unpaid leave days from 10 to a maximum of 15 days. This is expected to help alleviate economic anxiety caused by unpaid leave and reduce the childcare burden.
Workers and representatives eligible for the “Employment Retention Support Project” can apply by visiting the Yeongdeungpo-gu Job Plus Center, by mail, email (job1119@ydp.go.kr), or fax until November 6.
Those wishing to apply for the “Family Care Cost Support Project” can apply via the person in charge’s email (ydp1004@ydp.go.kr) or by visiting the Yeongdeungpo-gu Job Plus Center.
For more detailed information about the two support systems, please visit the Yeongdeungpo-gu website or contact the dedicated reception desk at the Yeongdeungpo-gu Office Job Economy Division.
Chaehyun Il, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, stated, “We have expanded the scope and range of support to provide practical help to both companies and workers struggling due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic,” and added, “We will continue to prepare various measures to stabilize people’s livelihoods and revitalize the local economy.”
