Fashion Manufacturing Hub with 857 Companies ... Enhancing Small Business Productivity and Creating Local Jobs
[Asia Economy Reporter Jo In-kyung] The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 29th that it will open the 'Seoul Fashion Smart Center (Geumcheon Solution Anchor)' in Siheung-dong, Geumcheon-gu, where 857 fashion manufacturing companies are concentrated, with an area of about 400 pyeong (total floor area 1,247㎡).
The Seoul Fashion Smart Center is a space created to support small fashion garment manufacturers and to create jobs through employment and start-ups. To improve the productivity of small fashion garment manufacturers, anyone can use advanced equipment free of charge after making a reservation in advance, and practical academies for fashion industry entrepreneurs will also be conducted.
Within the center, the country's first one-stop smart manufacturing innovation system based on IT solutions has been established, enabling everything from design consultation to pattern-automatic cutting (CAM), sewing, and finishing for product production.
The entire space is composed of an automatic cutting room, shared equipment room, training room, start-up space, mask manufacturing facilities, and office space, all designed with efficient flow based on the opinions of small fashion garment manufacturers. If small manufacturers want to produce customized, small-quantity, multi-product clothing, the center will support rapid product production not only through visits but also through non-face-to-face consultations via the website.
The city will operate various educational and collaboration programs throughout the year so that the Seoul Fashion Smart Center can become a control tower that enhances competitiveness in the fashion garment field, where young entrepreneurs' ideas and skilled workers' know-how can collaborate.
In particular, as part of the 'Seoul City Comprehensive Supply Measures for Quarantine Supplies' in preparation for the rapidly spreading novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), fine dust, and yellow dust worldwide, the center has established health mask manufacturing and production facilities, enabling the production of 5.5 million masks annually starting next year.
Kim Ui-seung, Director of the Seoul Metropolitan Government's Economic Policy Office, said, "It is a meaningful first step to establish the first Seoul Fashion Smart Center to support small fashion garment manufacturers and young entrepreneurs," adding, "We will actively seek ways to revitalize urban manufacturing to lead regional economic revitalization and job creation."
