[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] The Korea Institute for Industrial Economics and Trade (KIET) announced that Xing Haiming, the Chinese Ambassador to Korea, visited the institute on the 28th to present on the direction of industrial cooperation between Korea and China, and held a discussion with researchers including President Jang Jisang.
Ambassador Xing Haiming assessed, "Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, the Chinese economy has steadily developed and is expanding its openness to the outside world, which will further activate industrial cooperation between Korea and China."
He emphasized the free trade zone as a platform connecting the Korean and Chinese markets. He proposed strengthening cooperation in fields such as the digital economy, health, and medical sectors, as well as advancing into third countries through the linkage of China's Belt and Road Initiative and the New Southern and Northern Policies.
Researchers at KIET stated, "The importance of Korea-China industrial cooperation in our industrial development is very significant, but there are difficulties in cooperation due to recent changes in the industrial and trade environment," and suggested that "it is necessary to change the paradigm of cooperation under the influence of the Fourth Industrial Revolution."
