[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Dong-hoon] The Ministry of Environment announced on the 28th that the wild bird droppings collected on the 24th around Cheongmicheon in Yongin-si, Gyeonggi Province, were confirmed to contain the H5N8 highly pathogenic avian influenza (AI) virus.
This is the second detection of the highly pathogenic avian influenza virus this year, following the wild bird droppings collected on the 25th around Bonggangcheon in Cheonan-si, Chungnam Province.
The Ministry of Environment plans to strengthen surveillance of major migratory bird habitats nationwide and enhance quarantine management of protected wild bird habitats, including endangered species, as well as exhibition and breeding facilities, in accordance with the 'Wild Bird AI Standard Operating Procedure (SOP)'.
In particular, the area within a 10 km radius of the detection site will be designated as a 'wild waterfowl surveillance area,' where quarantine measures will be reinforced by installing control posts and banners to restrict access after disinfection.
