[Asia Economy Reporter Heo Midam] On the 28th, Jeong Cheong-rae, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, evaluated the rising preference for Yoon Seok-yeol, Prosecutor General, as a presidential candidate by saying, "The rise in Yoon Seok-yeol's approval rating is a disaster for the People Power Party."
Jeong said in a post on his Facebook that day, "Yoon Seok-yeol's approval rating is turning the support rates of the People Power Party's potential candidates into acorns. Due to the Yoon Seok-yeol blocking phenomenon, the approval ratings of his party's candidates are hitting rock bottom."
He continued, "It is difficult for Yoon Seok-yeol to join the People Power Party early. Since his family's cases are involved, it is also hard for him to resign as Prosecutor General. His family will likely dissuade him," adding, "If he completes his term, he will only be able to start politics in earnest in August next year, but by then it will already be too late."
He said, "(The moment Yoon) joins the party, his political actions during his tenure as Prosecutor General will face resistance with accusations of 'Did you do that just to join the People Power Party?' At that moment, his approval rating will inevitably drop, which will not be much help to the People Power Party," and added, "It doesn't seem like he will join."
Then, Jeong pointed out, "Ultimately, the rise in Yoon Seok-yeol's approval rating does not help the People Power Party at all," and "Rather than helping, it is depriving the acorn-like potential candidates within the People Power Party of their opportunities."

He also said, "Shouldn't those with intentions in the People Power Party struggle to overcome this Yoon Seok-yeol blocking phenomenon? Like frogs that must jump out of gradually warming water?"
In particular, he criticized, "What is even more incomprehensible is how they protect the very person who played a significant role in the imprisonment of Park Geun-hye and Lee Myung-bak, like frogs who have lost their minds on an experimental table," adding, "Aren't Lee Myung-bak and Park Geun-hye former presidents from their own party and like parents? In Chinese martial arts novels, there are many stories of children avenging their parents."
Finally, Jeong added, "Will the People Power Party become like frogs slowly dying, unable to overcome the Yoon Seok-yeol blocking phenomenon? I am quite curious."
Earlier that day, a poll showed that Yoon's preference as a presidential candidate rose following the National Assembly's audit of the Supreme Prosecutors' Office.
According to a survey conducted by the polling firm R&Search on 1,032 adults nationwide from the 25th to 26th, Yoon's preference rate was 15.1%, ranking third after Gyeonggi Province Governor Lee Jae-myung (22.8%) and Democratic Party leader Lee Nak-yeon (21.6%). Yoon's preference rate increased by 1.0 percentage point compared to the survey in August.
This survey was conducted at the request of Dailyan. The sampling error is ±3.1% at a 95% confidence level. For more details, refer to the Central Election Poll Deliberation Commission website.
