Ministry of Foreign Affairs: "North Korea's South Invasion, an Undeniable Historical Fact" Rebuttal
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the Korean War was triggered by North Korea's invasion of South Korea and is an undeniable historical fact, in response to the Chinese Communist Youth League's claim that the Korean War was not an invasion by North Korea but merely a civil war.
On the 28th, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, "As seen in past UN Security Council resolutions (Nos. 82, 83, 84) that regarded North Korea's armed attack as a destruction of peace and called for the immediate cessation of hostile acts and withdrawal of North Korean troops north of the 38th parallel, it is an internationally recognized and undeniable historical fact that the Korean War was triggered by North Korea's invasion of the South." It emphasized, "The issue of the outbreak of the Korean War and related matters have already been settled internationally, and this clear historical fact cannot be changed."
Furthermore, the Ministry explained, "The government is closely monitoring related developments and is engaging in necessary communication and measures with the Chinese side regarding our concerns."
Earlier, on the 25th, the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League, the youth organization of the Chinese Communist Party, stated in a Q&A format on its official Weibo account that the Korean War was not an invasion by North Korea. The Youth League claimed, "At that time, both North Korea and South Korea asserted sovereignty over the entire Korean Peninsula," adding, "This was a civil war within one country, with frequent military clashes, which later escalated into the Korean War."
