[Asia Economy Reporter Cho Hyun-ui] “We will realize next-generation precision medicine using IT, digital healthcare, big data, and an open innovation infrastructure to establish future-oriented healthcare services."

On the 28th, Yoon Dong-seop, President of Yonsei University Medical Center, stated at a press conference held at Allen Hall, Yonsei University, "We will realize next-generation precision medicine."

Yonsei Medical Center plans to provide new medical services through an open infrastructure, advancing beyond precision medicine that analyzes individuals' genetic information, clinical data, and lifestyle habits to offer personalized treatment. President Yoon explained, “This is the true beginning of future medicine where all knowledge and digital resources are organically connected.”

To achieve this, Yonsei Medical Center will establish ▲ IT infrastructure ▲ digital healthcare and research ▲ big data research environment ▲ advancement of research support systems ▲ open innovation infrastructure ▲ reinforcement of medical device and new drug development support systems ▲ Yonsei University-Yonsei Medical Center-external institution platform ▲ excellent talent growth systems.

First, they will realize a data-centric hospital based on IT, digital healthcare, and big data. This includes a digital neural network for smart medical centers, data collection using biosensors, medical innovation through digital treatment and research, training of data management specialists, and research utilizing big data, all organically connected.

All data from Severance Health Checkup, patients, affiliated hospitals and partner institutions, and researchers will be aggregated into a big data center to generate massive information. A new R&D planning function will be established to utilize all medical assets of Yonsei Medical Center?including digital data, human-derived materials, clinical results, and intellectual property?in research.

President Yoon said, "We will actively participate in government and industry research and establish a research support system that allows researchers to focus on their work through the creation of joint research frameworks and step-by-step customized support for research areas."

Yonsei Medical Center will support the industrialization of the research outcomes produced in this way. Additionally, to foster outstanding talent, they will discover excellent resources and create an innovation ecosystem including systems for systematic growth.

Meanwhile, Yonsei Medical Center plans to build a future-leading specialized Yonsei Cluster through collaboration with various departments such as the College of Engineering, College of Science, and College of Life Science and Biotechnology at Yonsei University. They also plan to actively promote external collaboration with other universities, industries, and research institutes to achieve convergence innovation as a platform connecting all knowledge resources.

President Yoon said, “We will create an environment where researchers can focus on their studies and establish an open network where experts in related fields can participate, enabling research results to be commercialized. This will realize precision medicine that can contribute to severe and intractable diseases in the future. By realizing next-generation precision medicine, Yonsei Medical Center will grow as a global digital leader in healthcare institutions.”
