Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education Hosts '2020 2nd Gwangju Education Online Forum'

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] The Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education announced on the 28th that it held the '2020 2nd Gwangju Education Online Forum' under the theme 'The Direction of Gwangju Education in the Era of Climate Crisis.'


On the day of the online forum, about 300 people participated in real-time, and the recorded video can be viewed on the Gwangju Office of Education's YouTube channel.


The 2nd forum, held under the theme 'The Direction of Gwangju Education in the Era of Climate Crisis,' featured presentations by Yoon Hee-cheol, Secretary General of the Gwangju Sustainable Development Council, and Jo Gil-ye, Representative of the Climate Action Vegan Network.


Following this, designated discussions were held in order with Kim Jong-pil, Secretary General of the Gwangju Sunlight Power Cooperative, environmental teacher group operating teachers, the head of the Climate Environment Cooperation Team of the City Office of Education, and chairpersons of the Gwangju Environmental Movement Federation.


Secretary General Yoon Hee-cheol presented on 'The Era of Climate Crisis, Global Changes, and the Direction of Gwangju Education,' while Representative Jo Gil-ye delivered a presentation on 'The Truth about the Climate Crisis and Climate Actions Schools Must Implement.'


The discussants proposed specific implementation plans to respond to the climate crisis, directions for practice-centered environmental education, the Gwangju Office of Education's climate environment and ecological education promotion plans, and solutions to environmental problems through village education communities.


Students, the main stakeholders of Gwangju education, also participated in the forum and suggested the need for education that recognizes the seriousness of the climate crisis and environmental education that enables youth to take direct action.


Superintendent Jang Hwi-guk stated, "We will guarantee students' right to environmental learning for a safe and happy future, raise awareness of the climate crisis, and nurture them as practice-centered ecological citizens."
