[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Suwan] Jeong Cheong-rae, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, expressed gratitude, stating that the donations collected so far amount to 27.42 million won as he launched a public fundraising campaign.
On the 28th, Jeong posted on his Facebook, "Since posting the donation account yesterday, 584 people have sent 27.42 million won," and revealed, "This shows the exemplary small-scale majority of the ant army, with an average of 47,000 won per person."
He continued, "I sincerely thank those who have contributed to the collective fundraising."
He added, "I will not beg for the conglomerates' black money nor for the illicit funds of corruption," emphasizing, "I will fairly extend my hand to the people's clean donations. I will do clean politics with clean money."
Finally, Jeong stated, "I will not beg from Japan nor flatter dictators," adding, "No apple boxes or car convoys, please. I will focus on media reform, so please give me a penny."
Earlier, on the 27th, Jeong appealed for support on Facebook, saying, "My bank account is empty, so my heart feels lonely," and "I will work harder from now on, so please give me a penny."
He also said, "I earnestly requested donations, but only 161 people participated, and there has been no news since. I still need 1,000 more participants. Kim Nam-guk boasts that his is full, but I am too ashamed to show my face. I am even embarrassed to meet the President," repeatedly asking for support.
Previously, Kim Yong-min, a member of the same party, also appealed for donations on the 16th by posting on an internet bulletin board titled 'This is Representative Kim Yong-min. Shamelessly asking for support.' Kim said, "Actually, we lack operating funds, and my staff and I are starving. I am tired of kimbap every day. Shamelessly, I ask for generous donations."
Meanwhile, regarding this, Jo Su-jin, a member of the People Power Party, strongly criticized by capturing Jeong's Facebook post on the 27th, saying, "The world is really turning strangely."
Former Dongyang University professor Jin Joong-kwon also mocked on his Facebook the same day, saying, "Various uses of prosecutorial reform," and sarcastically, "Begging, Jeong Cheong-rae 'Give me a penny,' Kim Yong-min 'I eat kimbap every day.'"
