[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] Kim Jong-in, Emergency Committee Chairman of the People Power Party, stated on the 28th, "Considering the various situations experienced during the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) crisis, labor-related laws should also be revised to fit the new conditions."

On the afternoon of the same day, Kim Jong-in visited the Federation of Korean Trade Unions (FKTU) and held a meeting, saying, "As we transition to the 4th industrial structure, there is concern that employment issues may become serious due to robots and AI," and added, "To resolve these issues, it is more important to create a platform where all workers can participate and compromise together."

Kim Jong-in emphasized, "The problem in our country is how to resolve the situation of non-regular workers," and said, "This too cannot be solved unless the unions of regular and non-regular workers cooperate together."

Kim Jong-in stated, "It is the role of the political sphere to create solutions that everyone can work together to achieve," and added, "Our party is also seriously discussing and striving to present a reasonable proposal."

Kim Dong-myung, Chairman of the FKTU, said, "It has been six years since the visit of Kim Moo-sung, former leader of the Saenuri Party, the predecessor of the People Power Party, in September 2014. We warmly welcome you after such a long time," and added, "The new party platform announced by Chairman Kim Jong-in was impressive. We applaud the bold attempts to address polarization, eradicate unfair practices, create quality jobs, ensure a safe working environment, and build progressive labor-management relations."

Kim Dong-myung pointed out, "Considering the particularities and historical experiences of our country, discussions on labor market flexibilization and the issue of converting to regular employment require deeper debate and social consensus," and stated, "Strengthening the social safety net is the responsibility of the state and cannot be traded as compensation for labor flexibilization."

Kim Dong-myung said, "The COVID-19 crisis has led the public to agree on raising the minimum standards of living and creating double or triple safety nets," and expressed, "I believe the People Power Party will take the lead in ratifying the ILO conventions."
