KT Consortium Selected, Expecting Energy Resource Efficiency and Environmentally Friendly Industrial Complex Transformation
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Yeosu City (Mayor Kwon Oh-bong) announced on the 28th that it is ambitiously promoting the Smart Energy Platform Construction Project as the first project of the Yeosu National Industrial Complex Smart Green Industrial Complex.
The Smart Energy Platform Construction Project aims to improve the energy efficiency of individual companies through the connection and sharing of industrial energy data based on ICT, with the vision of an energy self-sufficient green industrial complex.
Over three years until the end of 2022, approximately 7 billion KRW will be invested in the project. The Korea Industrial Complex Corporation, which oversees the project, recently selected the KT Consortium as the implementing company through a public contest held last August.
The KT Consortium will establish a Communication Infrastructure and a Factory Energy Management System (CEMS) in the industrial complex to measure and automatically collect energy data. Participating companies will be able to monitor, analyze, predict, and manage their energy usage and engage in network activities.
An official from the Korea Industrial Complex Corporation Yeosu Gwangyang Branch stated, “We hope many companies will participate in the platform construction project for energy efficiency,” adding, “We plan to form a consultative body consisting of companies participating in this Smart Energy Platform Construction Project, energy-specialized companies, and universities to share experiences and achievements in energy management activities, and continuously discover and support R&D tasks for improving energy efficiency.”
A city official expressed, “In a situation where a paradigm shift in industrial complexes is inevitable, the Smart Energy Platform Construction Project can be seen as a condensed version of the Korean New Deal, which is summarized by the Digital New Deal and Green New Deal,” and added, “We will take the lead in securing as much national funding as possible related to the Smart Green Industrial Complex to ensure that the Yeosu National Industrial Complex leads the Smart Green Industrial Complex.”
The Yeosu National Industrial Complex was selected for the Smart Green Industrial Complex along with the Industrial Complex Renovation in May.
It is expected to transform the aging industrial complex into a competitive and environmentally friendly complex by digitalizing the companies and infrastructure within the complex, achieving energy self-sufficiency, and promoting eco-friendliness.
