Painter Jeong Jeong-yeop Receives Gender Equality Culture Award

The Cultural Content Award Goes to Seo Ire and Na Mom's Webtoon 'Jeongneoni'

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced on the 28th that artist Jeong Jeong-yeop has been selected as the recipient of this year's Gender Equality Culture Award. High marks were given for her artistic work focusing on the invisible lives and labor of Korean women. Major works include the series "Goksik," which captures the female perspective hidden behind repetitive labor, and the series "The First Supper," depicting various women. The Gender Equality Cultural Content Award goes to the webtoon "Jeongnyeon-i," co-created by Seo I-re and Na Momi. The work has been serialized since April last year. It is based on women's gukgeuk (female traditional Korean theater), popular in the 1950s, and highlights women's adventures, growth, and solidarity. The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism stated, "It has broadened the horizon of webtoons with a powerful female narrative." The Gender Equality Cultural Support Award is given to WeMeetUpSports, which developed an integrated lifestyle sports program connecting retired female athletes with beginners. It offers solutions to career interruptions for female athletes and promotes sports activities among general women, leading the spread of a gender-equal sports culture. The awards ceremony will be held on the 29th at the Korea Press Center.
