At the 5th Asia Women Index Awards Ceremony, Hanmi Pharmaceutical received the National Assembly Women and Family Committee Chairman Award. Lee Eui-cheol, CEO of Asia Economy (left), presented the award on their behalf.
[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] Hanmi Pharm, which received the newly established Women and Family Committee Chairperson Award this year, has 15 women among its 60 executives, accounting for 25% of the total.
This figure is more than five times the average female executive ratio (3.6%) of the top 500 large companies. The executives include 1 chairman and vice president, 2 senior managing directors, 4 managing directors, 2 directors, and 5 deputy directors. At Hanmi Pharm, female executives are in charge not only of specialized fields such as global strategy, development, clinical, overseas business, and research but also of factory management and marketing/business sectors, which were traditionally led by male executives.
The proportion of women in the pharmaceutical sales sector, considered difficult for women to work in, has sharply increased over the past three years. Since 2018, 32 women have been hired through recruitment.
Regardless of gender, Hanmi Pharm implements various programs to strengthen employee capabilities, including new employee orientation, promotion training, middle management training, team leader leadership courses, and core talent development systems. Employees who complete the in-house top executive (MBA) course, 'H-MBA,' with excellent grades receive full support for pursuing an external regular MBA. For specialized research positions such as research centers, the company supports doctoral studies related to pharmaceuticals, operating various systems to help female employees grow into key leaders.
Paid female leave is implemented, and if it cannot be used due to unavoidable circumstances, allowances are paid according to internal regulations.
Hanmi Pharm actively encourages maternity leave before and after childbirth and parental leave, with male employees also participating in parental leave. Pregnant employees can reduce working hours to 6 hours per day and adjust working hours, with salaries remaining the same. Female-only rest areas and nursing rooms are operated and freely accessible. Nursing rooms are equipped with refrigerators exclusively for breast milk.
All employees, regardless of gender, can freely use the care leave system. A 'baby goods basket' worth approximately 150,000 KRW is provided upon childbirth.
Hanmi Pharm also focuses on managing female personnel in its affiliates. Hanmi Precision Chemical was selected as an excellent company for employing female R&D personnel and received the Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Award, while JBM (a pharmaceutical management automation system company) received the Prime Minister's Commendation as an excellent company for gender employment equality.
