[Asia Economy Reporter Wondara] The leadership of the Democratic Party of Korea evaluated President Moon Jae-in's budget address as "presenting the conviction to overcome the crisis caused by the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19)."

Lee Nak-yeon, leader of the Democratic Party, met with reporters immediately after President Moon Jae-in's budget address at the National Assembly on the morning of the 28th and said, "He properly identified the most critical issues we are currently facing," adding, "I believe he presented plans and convictions to move forward based on those."

He added, "The party also shares that awareness of the issues and the direction for preparation after COVID-19."

When asked about the loudest applause during the carbon-related part of the address, he said, "That topic came up during the Korea New Deal party-government-civil workshop last Sunday, and it was decided to coordinate opinions as soon as possible," adding, "China and Japan have also announced such policies, and U.S. candidates are presenting very ambitious policies. I think it is natural and an unavoidable goal."

However, regarding the pre-briefing held in Speaker Park Byeong-seok's office just before the address, he refrained from commenting, saying, "It is not appropriate for me to be a source revealing confidential parts."

Kim Tae-nyeon, floor leader of the Democratic Party, also said, "I think the President fully empathizes with the difficulties of the people and showed the will to overcome this national crisis well and rather turn it into an opportunity for a new leap forward for Korea."

He added, "Policies are expressed through budgets, so next year's budget includes funds to overcome the COVID-19 quarantine crisis and, above all, the will to strongly protect socially vulnerable groups," adding, "He explained policies and budgets that design the future of Korea with the will to transform Korea into a leading country."

In response to a question about whether there are several hurdles such as the opposition party demanding a special prosecutor, Kim said, "Once the budget review and bill review begin in earnest, those claims will subside." He emphasized, "If Lime and Optimus are seen by the public as power-type gate scandals, the demand for a special prosecutor would have vitality, but looking at the current cases, these are financial fraud cases," adding, "This is not a matter for a special prosecutor."
