[Asia Economy Reporter Park So-yeon] LG Chem stated through an op-ed in a local U.S. media outlet that outsiders should not exert influence over the battery lawsuits between Korean companies.
Jang Seung-se, Executive Vice President and Head of Management Strategy at LG Chem's Battery Business Division, contributed an article titled "Trump Should Stay Out of Korean Dispute" to the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) on the 27th (local time).
In direct rebuttal to Holman Jenkins' op-ed published in the WSJ on the 14th, EVP Jang said, "Holman Jenkins' article on the relationship between trade-secret protection and economic revitalization reached an unfounded conclusion that U.S. President Donald Trump should abandon four years of trade policy and protect foreign intellectual property thieves from punishment."
EVP Jang stated, "Earlier this year, the administrative law judge of the International Trade Commission issued a preliminary ruling against LG Chem, and the final decision is expected on December 10," adding, "The issue is the trade secret dispute between electric vehicle battery manufacturers LG Chem and SK Innovation."
He further criticized, "Trade secret protection is key to creating American jobs," and "Jobs promised by companies that have stolen intellectual property cannot be trusted."
