Jeonnam Province Conducts 'Focused Inspection' on Frequent Traffic Accident Areas in the Region

[Muan=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Jeonnam Province announced on the 28th that it will conduct intensive inspections targeting areas with frequent fatal traffic accidents within the province to reduce traffic accidents.

Recently, with the easing of social distancing for COVID-19 to level 1, vehicle traffic has increased, leading to a rise in casualties from traffic accidents.

Accordingly, the province plans to conduct intensive inspections of accident-prone locations within the province in cooperation with related organizations such as city and county offices, the National Police Agency, the Korea Road Traffic Authority, and the Korea Transportation Safety Authority until the 6th of next month.

The inspections will target locations where three or more fatal accidents or ten or more serious injury accidents have occurred in the past three years.

In particular, for 13 locations where three or more fatal accidents and significant casualties have occurred, the inspections will focus on the appropriateness of road structures and facilities such as safety signs, speed reduction facilities, and unprotected left turns, as well as factors and issues related to traffic signal operations.

Minor issues found during the inspections will be addressed on-site, and for locations requiring facility improvements, improvement plans will be prepared and coordinated with the Korea Road Traffic Authority to ensure early implementation.

Park Cheolwon, Director of the Road Traffic Division of Jeonnam Province, said, “With the autumn holiday season approaching, the number of tourists visiting Jeonnam is expected to increase, so we will do our best to reduce traffic accidents, focusing on accident-prone areas,” and added, “Please drive safely with consideration and yielding for your family.”
