Full-Scale Promotion of Hosting the 2026 Transportation Olympics ITS World Congress in Gangneung

[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo In-ho] The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 28th that it will actively promote Gangneung City, the domestic candidate site, by holding an international webinar on the 29th to attract the Gangneung ITS World Congress.

In February, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport finalized Gangneung City as the domestic candidate city at the ‘2026 ITS World Congress Candidate City Selection Evaluation Committee’ and is actively conducting attraction activities centered on the attraction committee composed of Gangwon Province, Gangneung City, Korea Expressway Corporation, and Korea Intelligent Transportation Systems Association.

The ITS World Congress, known as the Transportation Olympics, started in 1994 in Paris, France, and is the world's largest exhibition and academic conference in the field of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS)*, held annually rotating through Asia, the Americas, and Europe.

Korea has successfully hosted the ‘5th Seoul ITS World Congress’ (1998) and the ‘17th Busan ITS World Congress’ (2010).

The international webinar for attracting the Gangneung ITS World Congress on the 29th will be attended by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and Gangneung City, and from abroad, directors of the Asia-Pacific Board holding voting rights for candidate city selection from China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Australia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Korea are expected to participate.

Starting with this webinar, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and Gangneung City plan to strengthen cooperative relationships with Asia-Pacific board member countries and devote full efforts to attraction activities such as the 2021 Australia (April, Brisbane) ITS Asia-Pacific Congress and on-site inspection and promotional activities of the ITS Asia-Pacific Secretariat (May).
