Actor Go Doo-shim and Byun Hee-bong Awarded Silver Crown Cultural Medal


Actors Go Doo-shim and Byun Hee-bong (Byun In-cheol) and singer Yoon Hang-gi will receive the Silver Crown Order of Cultural Merit. On the 28th, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced the selection of 29 recipients, including six Order of Cultural Merit awardees, six Presidential Citation recipients, eight Prime Minister Citation recipients, and nine Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Citation recipients. The award ceremony will be held at 6 p.m. at Kyung Hee University's Peace Hall.


Go Doo-shim, the Silver Crown Order of Cultural Merit recipient, is known as the "nation's mother" who has delivered long-lasting emotion and comfort to the public through the drama "Jeonwon Ilgi." She debuted in 1972 as an MBC public recruitment talent and has been active in dramas, films, and theater. She has won the most acting awards (7 times) for her passionate performances in dramas. The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism stated, "She is an actor who has won the grand prize from all three terrestrial broadcasters," and added, "She serves as a role model to many through various sponsorships and volunteer activities outside the filming sets."


Byun Hee-bong debuted in 1963 as the first generation voice actor at Dong-A Broadcasting. He received much love for his distinctive acting in films such as "A Dog of Flanders," "Memories of Murder," "The Host," and "Okja." The Ministry explained, "He has greatly contributed to the development of Korean cinema, including being invited to the Cannes International Film Festival for 'Okja'." Yoon Hang-gi is a first-generation singer-songwriter in Korea. He debuted in 1959 with the rock band "Key Boys," leading the revival of rock music and youth culture. His representative songs include "Everyone," "On a Starry Night," and "I Am Happy."

Recipients of the Bronze Crown Order of Cultural Merit include voice actor Song Do-soon, broadcast writer Song Ji-na, and comedian Im Ha-ryong (Im Han-yong). Song Do-soon debuted in 1967 as the third generation voice actor at TBC and helped viewers' understanding with her flavorful voice. Her representative works include radio programs "Song Do-soon's Evening Walk Together" and "Live Morning Window," foreign animation "Tom and Jerry," and TV programs "Come to Play," "Experience Life's Scene," and "6 O'clock My Hometown."


Song Ji-na is a writer recognized for both artistry and popularity with dramas such as "Eyes of Dawn," "Sandglass," and "The Legend." She debuted as an MBC radio writer in 1981 and has written numerous documentary and drama scripts. Im Ha-ryong debuted as a comedian on KBS in 1981. He has brought laughter to the public not only through comedy programs like "Humor No. 1" and "Comedy Laughing Day Good Day" but also in films such as "Welcome to Dongmakgol" and "Barefoot Ki-bong."


Presidential Citation recipients include actress Kim Hee-ae, who gave an impressive performance in the drama "The World of the Married," broadcaster Kang Ho-dong, musician Kim Ki-pyo, broadcast writer Kim Eun-hee, and actors Chun Ho-jin and Hyun Bin (Kim Tae-pyung). Prime Minister Citation recipients are actors Kang Ha-neul, Gong Hyo-jin, Yoon Yoo-sun, voice actor Kim Yong-sik, comedian Park Mi-sun, group SEVENTEEN, producer Shin Chun-soo, and choreographer Choi Young-jun. Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Citation recipients include voice actor Kang Soo-jin, group No Brain, actors Ryu Soo-young, Jung Sung-hwa, Jo Jae-yoon, broadcast writer Lim Sang-chun, singer Lim Young-woong, comedian Jang Do-yeon, and musician Jung Sung-ha.
