Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology Launches 'Open Council' for Research Innovation

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST, President Kim Gi-seon) has brought together major research and innovation institutions in the Gwangju-Jeonnam region to establish a sustainable open collaboration system for strategic responses such as government policy research and planning of medium to large-scale projects.


GIST announced on the 28th that it has launched an open council for research innovation.


The council was promoted with the purpose of sharing and researching the latest policy issues and issues in science and technology and industrial technology fields, reflecting them in the planning of medium to large-scale projects to enhance field relevance and feasibility, and combining core competencies of innovation institutions through a two-track operation method of open consortium types according to the mission.


Through this council, GIST plans to play a pivotal leading role as a think tank in the Gwangju-Jeonnam region to contribute to the development of local industries.


The kickoff meeting of the Research Innovation Institutions Council was held the day before, attended by President Kim Gi-seon, Vice President for Research Kim In-su, Vice President for External Affairs Kim Young-jip, department heads and research institute directors, as well as heads of 22 major innovation institutions in the Gwangju-Jeonnam region including Gwangju Technopark and Jeonnam Technopark.


Going forward, the Research Innovation Institutions Council aims to contribute to the development of local industries by planning projects tailored to the needs of companies and markets, creating synergy effects for regional industrial development, and expanding into a platform capable of conducting technology linkage and collaborative research with various companies including local enterprises.


Vice President for Research Kim In-su said, “The purpose of operating the Research Innovation Institutions Council aligns with GIST’s vision as a model science and technology institution leading regional innovation and conducting inclusive research and development together with the local community,” adding, “Through continuous operation of the council, we will consolidate the core competencies of each institution and play a leading role in co-growth of research innovation institutions and contribution to the local community by creating dynamic synergy.”
