Opening of Nowon-gu Children's Theater

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Nowon-gu (District Mayor Oh Seung-rok) will operate the 'Nowon Children's Theater,' a cultural performance art space designed to foster children's imagination, starting from the 30th, marking the first of its kind in the northeastern area.

This children's theater is characterized by being tailored entirely to the perspective of children from start to finish. General performance halls are designed for adults, making them unsuitable for children's performances and uncomfortable for young audiences, often causing distraction.

The children's theater, with a total floor area of 1,471㎡ (performance hall exclusive area 391㎡), is located on the basement first floor of the KT Nowon branch near Lotte Department Store in Sanggye-dong (Nohae-ro 502). It is a remodeled version of the existing Nowon Eoulim Theater, converted into a theater exclusively for children.

The seating includes a total of 208 seats, including 4 for the disabled. The performance stage has been completely refurbished, and new entrance stairs have been installed to ensure safe use by children. The seats are installed as integrated sofa-type seats, considering the sitting height of children. Additionally, child-friendly toilets with character-themed fun designs, child-sized washbasins, and other facilities have been added to enhance convenience during restroom use.

The ancillary facilities of the performance hall also add fun. The ceiling of the first-floor lobby is decorated with over 100 three-dimensional cube shapes in yellow and blue colors to stimulate children's imagination, and a nursing room and play area for waiting during performances have been created. Near the entrance stairs on the first floor, a photo zone has been set up where visitors can take commemorative photos with characters.

The district has introduced an artistic director system to present excellent works throughout the year. For the opening commemorative performance, the enchanting Korean fairy tale and a must-see children's play, 'Gangaji Ddong' (Dog Poop), will be performed three times: on October 30th (one show at 5 PM) and November 1st (two shows at 2 PM and 5 PM).

The famous fairy tale 'Gangaji Ddong' by author Kwon Jeong-saeng tells the heartwarming story of a piece of dog poop rolling on the street that sacrifices itself to become fertilizer, allowing a beautiful dandelion flower to bloom, portraying the value of existence and the preciousness of life. The theater troupe 'Mosineun Saramdeul,' who first adapted the work for the stage, will perform delicate and witty portrayals of characters such as Dog Poop, Dirt Clod, Sparrow, and Hen on stage.

Musicals will also be presented. Performances such as 'The Short-necked Giraffe Jipi,' the musical piece 'Little Musician,' and the play 'The Snow Queen' are scheduled to be staged sequentially.

Admission is allowed for children aged 36 months and older, with all seats priced at 20,000 KRW. Tickets can be reserved through Interpark or the Nowon Cultural Foundation website.

District Mayor Oh Seung-rok said, "I hope that both parents and children can comfortably enjoy a culturally rich and memorable experience at Nowon Children's Theater, a space designed to fit children's bodies and perspectives."
