[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Saeng-hye] CJ CheilJedang announced on the 28th that it has won the Grand Prize in the 'Sustainable Management' category for two consecutive years at the '2020 Global Standard Management Awards (GSMA)'.
Organized by the Korea Management Registrar (KMR), the Global Standard Management Awards recognize companies with outstanding efficient management systems and related achievements. The Sustainable Management category awards companies that serve as role models for sustainable corporate development by balancing social, economic, and environmental issues. A judging panel composed of professors and experts from various fields fairly and rigorously evaluates companies' strategic sustainable management planning, execution, and performance.
CJ CheilJedang was recognized for establishing and achieving the 'Nature to Nature' realization strategy, a virtuous cycle system based on the group's philosophy of business serving the nation, connecting 'from nature to the consumer's table, and back to nature.' The company was praised for reorganizing its business direction to turn the crisis of an uncertain management environment caused by the unexpected pandemic into an opportunity, creating two core shared values: 'health and safety' and 'sustainable environment.'
First, in terms of health and safety, CJ CheilJedang provides healthy and trustworthy food throughout the entire value chain, from raw material procurement to development and production.
Through continuous research and development, it has launched home meal replacements (HMR) and health functional foods that consider customers' health. Additionally, it has established an 'Integrated Food Safety System' covering the entire process from production to distribution both domestically and overseas, ensuring thorough food safety. The company is also expanding the use of eco-friendly raw materials, developing and distributing seeds suitable for local conditions, transferring advanced agricultural technologies, and continuously investing in infrastructure.
In particular, to create a sustainable environment, CJ CheilJedang reduced approximately 551 tons of plastic raw materials in containers for Hetbahn (cup rice) and seasoning sauces as of last year. This amount corresponds to the production volume of about 3,673 cars. Furthermore, the company completed the development of PHA (polyhydroxyalkanoate), a biodegradable plastic, and recently has been leading awareness improvement related to 'food expiration dates' through its Wise Eating Campaign.
Jang Min-ah, head of CJ CheilJedang's CSV Management Team, stated, “Although it is a difficult time to foresee the future, we will take responsibility and strive to contribute more to society as our sustainable management system and strategy have been recognized.”
