The initial release price of 2,398,000 won is now 693,000 won cheaper
[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] The launch price of Samsung Electronics' first foldable smartphone, the 'Galaxy Fold,' has dropped to the 1.7 million KRW range.
On the 28th, Samsung Electronics and the three major carriers lowered the Galaxy Fold's launch price to 1,705,000 KRW. This is the second price reduction following the cut to 1,998,700 KRW in February.
When the Galaxy Fold was released last September, its launch price was 2,398,000 KRW, meaning it has been reduced by 693,000 KRW compared to the initial price. With this price cut, the Galaxy Fold has become cheaper than the iPhone 12 Pro 512GB model (1.76 million KRW).
At LG Uplus, based on the highest-priced plan, with a publicly announced subsidy of 510,000 KRW plus an additional subsidy of 76,500 KRW, the Galaxy Fold can be purchased for just over 1.11 million KRW.
It is interpreted that Samsung Electronics is working to clear inventory by releasing the Galaxy Z Fold2 and other models last month. Ahead of the iPhone 12 launch, Samsung Electronics is continuously lowering the launch prices of its foldable smartphones.
On the 16th, Samsung Electronics also lowered the launch price of the Galaxy Z Flip to 1,188,000 KRW. The price at launch in February was 1.65 million KRW, which was reduced to 1,342,000 KRW in early September, followed by an additional 150,000 KRW price cut. This makes it 462,000 KRW cheaper than the initial launch price.
