[Asia Economy Reporter No Woo-rae] ○…'Golf Emperor' Tiger Woods (USA, photo) will not participate in the tournament right before the Masters this year either.
On the 28th (Korean time), the US ESPN quoted Woods' agent Mark Steinberg saying, "Woods will not participate in the PGA Tour Houston Open, which opens in early November." As a result, Woods will directly compete in the Masters, postponed due to the impact of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), held on November 12 at Augusta National in Georgia, USA. Until now, he has never played in the tournament held the week before the Masters in which he participated.
During last week's Zozo Championship, Woods left open the possibility of playing in the Houston Open, saying, "Since the Masters will be held in November, the preparation process may be different." However, he ultimately decided to focus on preparing for the Masters over time. Last year, he recorded 2 under par on the final day to achieve a one-stroke come-from-behind victory. This was his 5th overall win at this tournament, the first in 14 years since 2005, following his wins in 1997, 2001, and 2002 (back-to-back), and his 15th major victory, the first in 11 years since the 2008 US Open.
