Seongdong-gu Childcare Comprehensive Support Center Renovated with Shared Childcare Room and Online Studio

‘Seongdong-gu Childcare Support Center’ Relocates to New 3rd Floor Building, Opening Ceremony on 27th... Opening a New Chapter with ‘Co-Parenting Room’ and Nation’s First ‘Online Broadcasting Studio’ at Childcare Support Center

Seongdong-gu Childcare Comprehensive Support Center Renovated with Shared Childcare Room and Online Studio Jung Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, is touring the Joint Childcare Room at the Comprehensive Childcare Support Center.

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Seongdong-gu (Mayor Jung Won-oh) opened the ‘Seongdong-gu Childcare Comprehensive Support Center’ on the 27th, equipped with a child care love room ‘Community Childcare Room’ and an ‘Online Broadcasting Studio’.

The existing Seongdong-gu Childcare Comprehensive Support Center was using a second-floor space of a church located in Wangsimni Doseon-dong, which caused space shortages and difficulties in carrying out various projects.

Accordingly, the district decided to build and relocate the center to the railway idle land in front of Seongdong-gu Office at Wangsimni Station, starting construction in March 2018, and has now opened it.

The center, built as a building with one basement floor and three above-ground floors, with a total floor area of 842㎡, installed a ‘Community Childcare Room’ where local residents can share childcare and know-how, and created a ‘Program Room’ and a ‘Multipurpose Hall’ where various education and events can be held.

In particular, in response to the situation where most projects are conducted online due to the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), the center established the nation’s first ‘Online Broadcasting Studio,’ laying the foundation to create a new model for infant and toddler projects in the post-COVID-19 era.

A district official said, “The Seongdong-gu Childcare Comprehensive Support Center, selected as an excellent center in the nationwide childcare comprehensive support center evaluation hosted by the Ministry of Health and Welfare in 2018, provides professional and systematic programs and high-quality childcare services covering overall infant and toddler care, including consulting on daycare center operations, education and counseling for childcare staff, substitute teacher support projects, child abuse prevention projects, and support programs for children with disabilities,” adding, “With the construction of this center, it has become possible to promote and provide a wider variety of infant and toddler projects and services.”

Meanwhile, in the Geumho-dong area, the ‘Seongdong Ai Sarang Complex Cultural Center,’ a creative complex cultural experience center where parents and children can enjoy healthy leisure activities, is also being promoted with the goal of opening in March next year.

It is planned to have facilities such as a kids caf?, community childcare sharing space, children’s art museum, and creative science experience room across floors one to four above ground.

Seongdong-gu Mayor Jung Won-oh said, “The reason Seongdong-gu was able to achieve the highest total fertility rate among Seoul’s autonomous districts for three consecutive years was largely due to the expansion of national and public daycare centers with a utilization rate of 64% and the role of the Childcare Comprehensive Support Center,” and added, “We expect the center to open a new chapter in Seongdong-gu’s childcare projects and to play a central role in carrying the future of Seongdong, the number one district for childcare.”
