[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Dong-hoon] A high school staff member accused of leaking the American Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) exam papers has been arrested.
On the 27th, Judge Won Jeong-sook, in charge of warrants at the Seoul Central District Court, conducted a pre-arrest suspect interrogation (warrant substantive examination) for Lee, who is accused of obstruction of business, and issued an arrest warrant, stating, "The reasons and necessity for detention are recognized."
Regarding the reason for issuing the warrant, Judge Won stated, "Lee's actions have greatly damaged the trust of examinees in fair testing and the trust in Korea within the international community," adding, "There is a concern that Lee may flee overseas, and since Lee is involved in overseas university admissions work, there is also a risk of reoffending."
Lee is accused of leaking SAT exam papers delivered to this school from the United States over a period of three years starting in 2017. It is known that Lee opened boxes containing the exam papers, took photos, and passed them to an admissions broker. The leaked exam papers were delivered to dozens of parents.
The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's Intelligent Crime Investigation Unit conducted a search and seizure at High School A earlier this month, securing closed-circuit television (CCTV) files, and applied for an arrest warrant for Lee on the 23rd. Prior to this, last month, the police arrested broker B, who illegally diverted SAT questions, and booked about 20 people including academy instructors and parents who used the leaked materials on charges of obstruction of business.
