[Asia Economy Reporter Geum Bo-ryeong] It has been revealed that the Communist Youth League of China (Gongcheongdan) claimed the Korean War was a civil war in Korea.
The Communist Youth League Central Committee, a youth organization within the Chinese Communist Party, stated on its official social network service (SNS) Weibo account on the 25th, in a Q&A format, that the answer to the question "Did North Korea invade South Korea in the Korean War?" was "No."
The Youth League explained, "At that time, North Korea and South Korea both claimed sovereignty over the entire Korean Peninsula. This was a civil war within one country."
They added, "Military clashes frequently occurred between the two sides, and subsequently, the Korean War broke out."
Chinese President Xi Jinping referred to the "War to Resist U.S. Aggression and Aid Korea" as "an invasion by American imperialism" on the 23rd, drawing backlash from South Korea and the United States. The Chinese government refers to the Korean War as the War to Resist U.S. Aggression and Aid Korea, meaning they supported North Korea against the U.S.
South Korean Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha emphasized at the National Assembly audit on the 26th, "The Korean War broke out due to North Korea's invasion of the South, as clearly stated in past United Nations Security Council resolutions," adding, "Since this is an undeniable historical fact, the international community is well aware of this issue."
Morgan Ortagus, spokesperson for the U.S. Department of State, also said on Twitter on the 24th (local time), "When free world countries fought against the North Korean army, the Chinese Communist Party sent hundreds of thousands of soldiers."
