[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Co., Ltd. Gori Nuclear Power Headquarters (Head Lee Sin-seon) conducted a 'Joint Radiation Disaster Prevention Drill for Shin-Gori Unit 2' at the Emergency Response Facility and Emergency Operations Facility (EOF) of the 3rd Power Plant from 9:00 AM to 1:30 PM on the 27th.
The 'Joint Radiation Disaster Prevention Drill' is a training exercise involving designated institutions in Busan City and Gijang County, which have jurisdiction over all or part of the radiation emergency planning zone, along with the Gori Nuclear Power Headquarters. It is conducted at each site at least once every two years.
This drill involved 127 radiation emergency personnel from the Gori Nuclear Power Headquarters, focusing on enhancing emergency response capabilities in cooperation with related organizations during emergencies, and verifying the effectiveness of disaster prevention measures and resident protection responses.
Assuming a radiation leak accident scenario, the drill included emergency medical rescue training for patients contaminated with radiation, emergency power supply training using a mobile power generation vehicle, and emergency water supply training using a mobile diesel-driven pump vehicle, strengthening on-site response capabilities to quickly restore the power plant and minimize damage in case of an emergency.
Lee Sin-seon, head of the Gori Nuclear Power Headquarters who directed the drill, said, “The drill, conducted as if it were a real situation, was a good opportunity to check the collaboration system for radiation disaster countermeasures and confirm the usefulness of the measures. We will continue training to become a safe Gori Nuclear Power Headquarters that can give trust to local residents.”
