[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] On the 27th, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs held a task force (TF) meeting to prepare for the upcoming US presidential election, which is just one week away, and thoroughly reviewed the election trends and the measures the government will take after the election.


According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the TF examined and discussed from various angles the impact of the US presidential candidates' foreign, security, and major policies on the Korea-US relationship and international relations.


The US presidential election preparation TF included related departments of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs such as the North American Affairs Bureau, North Korea Nuclear Diplomacy Planning Division, Peace Diplomacy Planning Division, Northeast Asia Bureau, Asia-Pacific Bureau, ASEAN Bureau, Africa and Middle East Bureau, Bilateral Economic Diplomacy Bureau, International Organizations Bureau, Climate Environment Science Diplomacy Bureau, Public and Cultural Diplomacy Bureau, and the Office of Foreign Policy Strategy Planning.


Choi Jong-geon, the First Vice Minister who presided over the meeting, emphasized the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' active role in continuously developing the Korea-US alliance, which is the foundation of diplomatic security, even after the US presidential election.


Since August, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has formed the US presidential election preparation TF chaired by the First Vice Minister to regularly review and consult on related matters. The Ministry has also designated election officers at overseas missions in the US region and held video conferences between headquarters and missions' election officers to continuously review and coordinate election trends and measures for each mission.
