English Zone Renovated with a New Name, 'Onnuri Zone'

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Seo Young-seo] Mokpo National University (President Park Min-seo) International Exchange Education Center (Director Choi Jae-min) announced on the 27th that it held an award ceremony for the new naming contest of the English Zone on the 26th.
This contest was conducted from the 7th to the 29th of last month for Mokpo National University students, in response to the demand that the English Zone should fulfill its role as an International Zone, not centered on the Anglo-American sphere, in line with the era of change and innovation.
Through the evaluation by a panel of judges composed of the Director of the International Exchange Education Center and heads of humanities departments, the grand prize was awarded to Yoo Myung-ju (4th year, Department of Business Administration), the excellence award to Seo Mu-gyeol (3rd year, Department of Social Welfare), and the encouragement awards to Song Do-hyun (2nd year, Department of Trade) and Yoo Eun-seon (4th year, Department of Marine and Fisheries Resources).
The grand prize winner, Yoo Myung-ju, proposed the new name ‘Onnuri Zone,’ which implies ‘a space where languages of the whole world can be accessed and learned.’
The International Exchange Education Center plans to rename the English Zone to ‘Onnuri Zone’ and develop new programs to enable students to enjoy learning many foreign languages more happily.
