Violinist Jo Jinju, Korea's First Full-Length Album 'La Capricieuse'

[Asia Economy Reporter Byunghee Park] Violinist Jo Jinju will release her first full-length album in Korea on November 6 through Sony Classical.

The album is titled 'La Capricieuse,' which means 'The Capricious Woman.' Jo Jinju personally participated in every aspect of this album, which is filled with charming and unpredictable caprices.

'La Capricieuse' is also the title of a piece by Elgar and is featured as track 9 on this album. Jo Jinju structured the program around this piece, recalling the fun, charm, and memories she first experienced with the violin when she heard Elgar's 'La Capricieuse' as a child.

In addition to 'La Capricieuse,' the album includes works such as Franck's Violin Sonata, Brahms' 'Hungarian Dance,' Wieniawski's 'Scherzo Tarantella,' Novacek's 'Perpetuum Mobile,' Poldini's 'Dancing Doll,' Bacchini's 'Goblin Dance (Scherzo Fantastique),' Paganini's 'Cantabile,' Ysa?e's 'Caprice on an Etude in Waltz Form by Camille Saint-Sa?ns,' and Paradis' 'Sicilienne.' Each movement from Franck's Violin Sonata No. 1 to No. 4, considered masterpieces among violin sonatas, is included, along with various other pieces.

The recording took place over three days in June at Sauder Hall, Goshen College, USA. Pianist Kim Hyunsoo, who has worked with Jo Jinju for a long time, participated to enhance the completeness of the pieces.

This album is Jo Jinju's third release. She previously released 'Brahms: Violin Sonata No. 3 & Ravel: Tzigane' in 2007 to commemorate her victory at the 2006 Montreal International Music Competition, and 'The Indianapolis Commissions, 1982-2014' in 2018, which compiled commissioned works from the Indianapolis Competition. However, these two albums were released to commemorate her Montreal competition win and are difficult to purchase domestically. This 'La Capricieuse' album is Jo Jinju's first full-length album released in Korea.
