Woori Technology "CGO Builds Two Ultra-Large Offshore Wind Installation Vessels... 'Exclusive Supply'"

[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Hyun-seok] Our Technology subsidiary CGO announced on the 27th that it will simultaneously begin constructing two of the nation's first ultra-large "10,000-ton class" offshore wind specialized installation vessels.

Among domestic companies related to offshore wind power, CGO is the only company with the technical capability to build specialized installation vessels capable of installing offshore wind power generation facilities of 4 megawatts (MW) or more. Through the construction of these ultra-large specialized installation vessels, CGO plans to enable transportation and installation of power generation facilities up to 10MW class.

Starting with this construction, CGO's specialized installation vessels are expected to be exclusively used in upcoming offshore wind power projects in Korea. Since two vessels are being built simultaneously, one of them is planned to be deployed in the Asian offshore wind market, and discussions with overseas related companies are currently underway.

Based on years of research and development and experience in offshore wind power plant construction, CGO has finalized this offshore wind specialized installation vessel construction project. Korea Shipbuilding Technology, a leader in domestic ship design and recipient of the Presidential Award, is responsible for the design, while the Dutch marine design specialist company GustoMSC is in charge of the hydraulic jacking system. Many companies with top-level technology in related fields are participating to enhance completeness. In particular, the concept of sister ships, where identically designed vessels are built simultaneously, has been applied, enabling the simultaneous construction of two offshore wind specialized installation vessels.

A representative from Our Technology said, "Specialized installation vessels are key equipment for constructing offshore wind power facilities, but until now, we had no choice but to use specialized installation vessels owned by European shipping companies from the UK, the Netherlands, Belgium, etc., which forced us to pay astronomical charter fees. For the activation of Korea's offshore wind power, domestic production of specialized installation vessels is an urgent matter."

He added, "By succeeding in domestic production of specialized installation vessels, CGO can not only further activate the ongoing offshore wind power facility construction but also significantly strengthen competitiveness in the global market through the construction of ultra-large specialized installation vessels."

CGO's specialized installation vessels are highly likely to be deployed in the 1.4 trillion KRW-scale "Donghae 1 Floating Offshore Wind Power Project" promoted by Korea National Oil Corporation and the 36 trillion KRW-scale "Ulsan Floating Offshore Wind Power Project." Having successfully completed the offshore construction of the nation's first commercial offshore wind farm and being recognized as the only specialized offshore wind company in Korea, CGO is expected to solidify its position as a leading offshore wind specialized company through this specialized installation vessel construction.
