In July, Singapore OTT Company Acquired 'Hook'
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Cheol-hyun] Coupang's new business has taken shape. The company has added video content-related business to its business objectives and filed trademarks, which is being analyzed as groundwork for entering the online video service (OTT) business.
According to the content industry on the 27th, Coupang recently added online music service provision and other value-added communication services (online VOD content) to its business objectives. Additionally, since the 17th of last month, it has consecutively filed trademarks for 'Coupang Wow Play', 'Rocket Wow Play', 'Coupang Streaming', 'Coupang Play', 'Coupang Original', 'Coupang TV', 'Coupang Plus', 'Coupang Video', and 'Coupang Live'.
Industry insiders interpret this as a move by Coupang to enter the OTT business. The fact that Coupang reportedly acquired the Singaporean OTT company 'Hooq' in July also supports this interpretation. Coupang has not made any specific statements regarding this matter.
