At around 8:40 PM that day, Representative Hong visited the funeral hall at Samsung Medical Center in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, where Chairman Lee's wake was held. When reporters asked, "What words of comfort did you offer to the bereaved family?" Representative Hong said, "I conveyed that the public is deeply saddened by the passing of a person who played a major role in making our economy a world-class economy."

He added, "I believe Chairman Lee Kun-hee played a very significant role in advancing the Korean economy to a developed economy through the semiconductor industry."
