In the afternoon, Deputy Prime Minister Hong visited the funeral hall at Samsung Seoul Hospital in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, where Chairman Lee's funeral was held, and recalled, "He is remembered as someone who early on implemented a global superhuman strategy and achieved results."
He added, "I believe that the corporate management strategies and achievements that the deceased pursued during his lifetime will serve as a great stepping stone for the Korean economy to leap forward as a leading superhuman nation in the global economy," expressing his condolences.
When asked by reporters what was discussed at the funeral hall, Deputy Prime Minister Hong said, "There were personal matters, and I briefly talked with Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong of Samsung Electronics about the recent economic situation."
Meanwhile, at around the same time, Cho Sung-wook, Chairman of the Fair Trade Commission, who also visited the funeral hall, said, "Rather than a personal connection, I came because he was a symbolic figure in the growth of our Korean economy and the business community."
However, regarding his thoughts on Samsung's governance structure, Chairman Cho avoided a direct answer, saying, "I will speak about it later." He briefly added, "I offer my condolences to the bereaved family."
