[2020 National Audit] Choo Mi-ae on Prosecutor General Yoon's Political Remarks: "Lacked Prudence"

[Asia Economy Reporter Baek Kyunghwan] Minister of Justice Choo Mi-ae criticized Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol's political remarks at the recent Supreme Prosecutors' Office audit, calling them "quite imprudent remarks."

On the 26th, Minister Choo attended the National Assembly Legislation and Judiciary Committee's audit of the Ministry of Justice and responded to Democratic Party lawmaker Kim Yong-min's comment that "Prosecutor General Yoon did not deny political-related questions during the last audit," adding, "As someone who must maintain political neutrality, the entire prosecution organization is now in a situation where it can be suspected." She added, "Those were quite imprudent remarks."

Earlier, during the Supreme Prosecutors' Office audit, when Kim Do-eup of the People Power Party asked, "(Volunteer) activities?do they involve politics as well?" Prosecutor General Yoon avoided a direct answer, saying, "That is difficult for me to comment on."

In the morning questioning, Minister Choo also stated, "As the Prosecutor General who must maintain political neutrality, he crossed the line with his remarks," adding, "I am very sorry and embarrassed." She further criticized, "As the head who should lead the prosecution impartially, even if he were to engage in politics tomorrow, at this moment he should have said, 'I have absolutely no intention of engaging in politics.'"
