[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Jiwon] Samsung C&T Corporation's Construction Division has been selected as a winner in a total of six categories at the '2020 Annual SHE Award Convention' hosted by the Land Transport Authority of Singapore.
According to Samsung C&T on the 26th, the 'T307 site,' an ongoing subway construction project in Singapore, received three awards at this safety management competition: the Safety Excellence Award, the Zero Accident Site Award, and the Workplace Health Award.
The Land Transport Authority of Singapore conducts an annual safety competition targeting infrastructure sites under construction. The T307 site also won the Safety Excellence Award last year.
To ensure worker safety amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the T307 site provides individual health management kits and uses automated temperature checks utilizing information technology (IT) when entering and exiting the site. Recognizing these efforts, Samsung C&T received the newly introduced Workplace Health Award this year.
In addition to the T307 site, the T313 subway site won awards in two categories, and the N106 underground road site was recognized in the Safety Innovation category.
Samsung C&T stated, "We have made various efforts to naturally establish safety as a culture on site both domestically and internationally," adding, "We introduced a communicative safety culture involving all workers rather than one-way instructions centered on managers."
Domestically, Samsung C&T empowers workers to identify risk factors themselves before starting work and to decide independently whether to proceed with the day's tasks.
Similarly, in Singapore and Hong Kong, workers are allowed to assess their readiness and risk levels themselves and decide whether to proceed with work on that day.
Furthermore, regular worker interviews are conducted to facilitate safety-related communication on site, and experiential safety training is operated to foster a culture where workers can protect their own safety.
