Gangdong-gu to Hold 'Gangdong's Yesterday and Today' Photo Exhibition from November 2 to 6...An Opportunity to Enhance Love and Pride for the Hometown
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Where was the hot place in Gangdong-gu in the 1970s?
Gangdong-gu (Mayor Lee Jeong-hoon) will hold a photo exhibition titled "Gangdong's Yesterday and Today" for five days starting November 2nd to share the history of Gangdong-gu's development from the Korean War to the present with local residents.
This photo exhibition captures the appearance of Gangdong through the ages, from past to present, and displays over 170 collected and preserved materials organized by era and theme at the Gangdong Historical Archive.
Visitors can see the gradual restoration of Gangdong after the Korean War, the 1979 district promotion marking the beginning of Gangdong-gu, the first Gangdong Prehistoric Culture Festival held at Amsa-dong Prehistoric Settlement, and the dazzling development of Cheonho-daero, showcasing the brilliant history of Gangdong-gu. Alongside, various lifestyles of residents who lived during those times will also be exhibited.
The "Gangdong's Yesterday and Today" photo exhibition will be held for five days from November 2nd to 6th in the lobby on the first floor of the Gangdong-gu Office's second building. The photos and materials displayed will also be produced as videos and available through Gangdong-gu's blog, Facebook, and other SNS platforms.
Lee Jeong-hoon, Mayor of Gangdong-gu, said, "We planned this photo exhibition to provide residents with an opportunity to learn about our district's history," adding, "I hope this exhibition will be a chance for local residents to share emotions and memories and to increase their affection and pride for Gangdong-gu."
Meanwhile, Gangdong-gu opened the Historical Archive in October 2017, the first among Seoul's autonomous districts. The second floor of the Gangdong-gu Office's second building, formerly used as a detention center for the old Gangdong Police Station, was remodeled into the archive, where important historical materials of Gangdong-gu are collected and managed.
