Conducted 2020 Second Half Education Discussion Forums in 14 Former Districts
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Dobong-gu (Mayor Dongjin Lee) is holding a second half public education discussion forum titled "COVID-19 and Community Education" at cafes in each neighborhood of Dobong-gu until November 20.
Currently, as part of the future-oriented educational autonomy cooperation district project selected by the Ministry of Education this year, the district is conducting the "Neighborhood-Centered (Dongsim)" project, which opens education forums in 14 neighborhoods to discuss local education with residents.
The Neighborhood-Centered education forums operate once a week in representative spaces of Dobong-gu's 14 neighborhoods, with one parent facilitator assigned per space to lead educational discussions with residents.
In particular, at the appointment and agreement ceremony with activists from seven newly discovered neighborhoods and cafe representatives from seven neighborhoods providing the spaces, participating residents expressed their anticipation, saying, "We are glad to participate in a project that discusses education in our community together with residents."
Earlier in the first half of the year, the Neighborhood-Centered project held 5 to 6 education forums per neighborhood, where local residents freely shared their opinions on community education.
This second half Neighborhood-Centered project will be operated as an educational discussion meeting with neighborhood residents' councils, encouraging voluntary participation from various residents interested in community education, including parents who could not participate in the first half.
Moreover, the educational agendas discovered through this Dongsim project will be reflected in Dobong-gu's 2021 community education policy establishment plan.
Mayor Dongjin Lee of Dobong-gu stated, "Good educational agendas to overcome the COVID-19 crisis were discovered through the first half education discussion forums," and added, "Through the second half Neighborhood-Centered project, we hope to discuss the overall direction of education after COVID-19 and create a site of resident educational autonomy to restore the community spirit of the neighborhood."
